having started way back in 1999 www.tubular.net is the brainchild of olivier lebra.
it is an unofficial website and forum dedicated to the music and career of mike oldfield.
today it is the leading source for information.
and it is the only fan based site linked to mike oldfield's official website.

the tubular net group formed back in January 2011.
having an idea to bring all these talented people together was an idea i had been forming for a while.
a few years before, the current members at tubular net had got together to record a cover version of mikes "finale" section from the original tubular bells.
I thought it was time to try something again in the same vein of cooperation i must admit the way this thing took off and the enthusiasm shown surpassed my expectations.
the intention was to create an album to celebrate mike oldfields 58th birthday.
a few of the musicians even started writing songs especially for this album.

Created by Terry Robinson after over 20 years of writing and recording music, the Purple Rhapsody concept is good quality, easily accessible instrumental music; complex enough to be properly listened to but also ideal for relaxing to after a long hard day.

To date I have published in excess of 30 tracks, which cross over into many different genres.

This specific track represents the late afternoon, and I imagined a sun that's just about to set, inside a huge tapestry of clouds, shedding the whole land with a fierce, reddish light.
The song expands from very cosy and gentle to soaring and strong, as our view expands to contemplate all the different landscapes that one can imagine: distant hills, vast plains, pastures, lakes, rivers and so on and on.
In 2010, this song, as well as the whole album, was given an ultimate rearrangement and rerecording, and released as Highways.
